My high school teacher used to make some amazing ones and this was pre-Levain. I have been chasing her for over half of my life for the recipe and she always promised to send it to me, but I’ve never gotten them. I even emailed her 20 years after my graduation yesterday for the recipe.. and then I found your page and was like actually her cookies are similar to Levain’s! So I’ve now gotten my fix, your recipe is great and I love the crisp outside and gooey inside. I did make some giant ones.. but I also made smaller normal sized ones and they’re just as good. Thank you!

Hi Debbie! If you remove the walnuts, the cookies will be slightly thinner. If you would like to compensate for that, you can add 2 Tablespoons of flour. I hope that helps!

Best ever cookies! I doubled the batch and had to use 2 mixers to finish. My family and friends went crazy over them. We had a student from France staying with us and said they were amazing. Truly the best cookies I’ve ever made. My new go to cookie!

I’m planning on making these cookies along with the Levain chocolate peanut butter chip cookies. I was wondering if I’d be able to make the dough days in advance before baking them and just refrigerating/freezing it? I was also concerned about the nuts in the dough…I’m not sure if that makes a difference when making the dough in advance.

If you could let me know what you think of this idea or give any tips, I’d really appreciate it!

We fell in love with Levain’s chocolate chip cookies but don’t live in NYC; these were excellent! I think the ingredients are correct although I think Levain chops a combo semisweet and milk chocolate instead of chips. Key is to let them rest! It allows them to set up perfectly while still warm ooey gooey. Nice job!!
